Abigail has now reached 6 weeks in hospital. Weve never, since - TopicsExpress

Abigail has now reached 6 weeks in hospital. Weve never, since shes been in planned more than a day ahead as weve never been sure of whatll happen next!. Since Abigail has been in, she has been waiting for a bed at GOSH, but last Friday we were told there was a chance it would be Newcastle. Monday morning we were told at 8.30 that Abigail was being transferred to Newcastle and would leave within the hour. This time she was definitely going and after much tears and hugs from us all she left Glenfield for the North East in an ambulance (William got to press the siren before it left and Abigail got the crew to put the blue lights on before she got in!). Abigail will be assessed here with a view to being bridged for transplant and the plan is to have her fitted with a heartware device which will assist with the function of her heart. She has a few tests to get through and then the consultants will discuss and decide the next steps, but the initial plan is to go to surgery and fit the device on Friday. Abigail is scared and apprehensive, its a massive change for her and now she is having to get used to a whole lot of new nurses and doctors, and hasnt worked out who she can boss about yet and they arent familiar with her shoulder shrugs yet either! As for us, we are a bit like rabbits in headlights at the moment. We became part of the furniture at Glenfield and miss everyone there tremendously! Thank you everyone at GGH who looked after her - Youre the best!
