About 5 years ago, I stumbled across a book by Carlton Pearson entitled The Gospel of Inclusion. In case you dont know, Carlton Pearson was kicked out of the Church of God In Christ and declared a heretic because he had begun to preach that the entire world was already saved through the death, burial and resurrection of Christ and that whether they professed to be a Christian or not, in the end all would be reconciled back to God. Being a 4th generation Pentecostal preacher, he had scriptures to back up his new found belief. I am in agreement with him and am now leaning toward Universalism. For some reason, it has been my experience that once churches find out about my new found beliefs, I am not really accepted anymore. I really dont understand that. I dont think people should be threatened by other religious beliefs. The same thing happened to a pastor of a large congregation in Atlanta when, after 40 years of ministry, he confessed to his congregation that he was gay. He lost two thirds of his congregation. This is the same man that had blessed their children, married people in the congregation and laid hands on the sick. Just because he changed his view on scripture interpretation, the people rejected him. Jesus always met people where they were. I love to hear sermons from the Bible that reflect the love of Jesus for ALL people. This is just where I am in my walk with God.
