About 50 small earthquakes in the past few days near Lassen Peak don’t appear to be related to volcanic activity there, U.S. Geological Survey officials said. The earthquakes started Sunday about 24 kilometers west-northwest of Chester and a mile south of the Lassen Volcanic National Park boundary. They were all between magnitude 1 and 3.8, with the largest quake hitting at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Subscribers can read more at Redding.
