About 6 years ago, I had the privilege of living in the beautiful city New York. I bartender on the upper east side at an Irish pub called Johnny Foxes. I worked on September 11th during the day when we had the honor of serving lunch to about 35 police officers and fireman in a group. Many of them lost loved ones that day many years ago and they always went to lunch together. There was such a feeling in that city on this day where the people that usually come across so hard became so friendly and open. One of the gentleman, a regular, that comes in for lunch often sat at my bar and told me stories of his friend he lost on that day years ago. It was just a sad day for everyone. Before he left, this man did the most selfless act I have ever witnessed. He pulled me to the side and asked if the group of police officers and fireman have already ordered their meals. They did and he gave me his CC and asked me to run it for the full amount plus extra if they wanted anything more, drinks or more food. I couldnt stop crying and I just told him I was so moved by this act of love and that it would be something that I never would forget. He left right away. When the table asked for the bill, I told them a wonderful man at the bar who lost a loved one as well took care of it. Each one of them were so silent for a couple of moments. Some even cried a little. When each one of these officers left they shook my hand and asked that I tell the man how much they appreciated this and wanted me to thank him. Even though this day is such a sad day for many and my heart goes out to all of them, there is still so much hope and kindness around from everyone and we continue to be strong. We will never forget. God Bless America!
