About NAB NAB is a national umbrella organization of the blind having 43 district branches with more than 3000 general member. Formally the association was established in 1993 in Kathmandu with a view to protect and promote rights and interest of the blind and visually impaired people in Nepal. The has been involved in various developmental activities to achieve the vision (Blind and Partially Sighted (BPS) persons of Nepal enjoying self-reliant and dignified life) in which education support, employment promotion and the capacity building are the key activities of the association. Our continuous advocacy campaign has resulted in creating employment opportunity to 350 BPS graduates. More efforts are needed to create the employment opportunity to as many as BPS people. For which accessibility is essential. In terms of BPS people the accessibility include mobility aids (white cane), educational materials (slate/stylus, magnifying glass for the low vision, Braille writing paper, mathematics board etc). The government runs 78 schools for the blind where in more than 13 hundred blind children are studying. However, government fails to meet the demand of educational materials and mobility aids. In the lack of such materials, the blind students have problem in doing home works, class works, making notes of the lessons that ultimately causes poor competency in the pass out result and employment opportunity. Moreover these problems are prevails in the rural districts where they have less access to the potentials donors. Hence, NAB works for bridging the support between the potentials supporting agencies and the beneficiaries.
