~~~ About Neurotic Depression ~~~ The psychiatric condition is less acute acute and severe than major depressive disorder, but course tends to be prolonged with fluctuations.The characteristics features are: * Mild to moderate depression which is often disproportionate to the severity of stress * Neurotic symptoms like anxiety, obsession, phobia and somatic symptoms are present * Psychotic features like delusion and hallucination are characteristically absent * Preoccupation with stress is common * It is observed that the patient is often able to emotionally react to events in his/her surroundings; which is referred to as "reactivity of mood being observed" * There may be sleep problems, either insomnia or hypersomnia *The mood may be worse in the evening and better when person is in social gatherings * Suicidal threats and gestures are reported to be more common than completed suicide
