About The Doctor The Doctor, formerly known as Bushdoctor, was established in 1993 by the partners Stephen Smith and Ahmed Omar, who had a desire to establish the biggest and best music promotion company in the UK specialising in Jungle Drum and Bass music. This dogged ambition and determination was in part fuelled by what they saw as a new and rapidly emerging jungle drum and bass scene, and one that, albeit at the time was mainly concentrated in and around London. Excited by what they saw, Stephen and Ahmed were determined to be considered among the first promoters to host jungle drum and bass parties outside of the capital and parties that were at least on a par, if not better with those taking place in London. However, they quickly realised that this was not going to be easy, particularly as many of the London-based promoters and even some of the DJ’s they came across were hostile to what they saw as outsiders muscling in on their creation. This even went as far as music being released entitled ‘It’s a London thing’. Undeterred by what they saw as the somewhat misguided stance of a few, Stephen and Ahmed decided that rather than be put off. They knew that there was a whole host of people outside of the capital that had both contributed to growth and development of the music and scene more generally and that they would therefore have to press ahead with this. That said, neither of them had expected the extent of the challenge that lay ahead of them. In addition to the challenge of putting on a huge party, they would also have to deal with promoters undermining and publicly slandering them. It was during this period that two new individuals were introduced to the team. Junior Suban and David Thomas had been long time close friends of Stephen and Ahmed. They had been involved in the rave scene from the start and had seen changes in both the music and scene, had made many contacts over the years but most importantly had experience of organising large parties. From this union Bushdoctor Promotions went on to host a series of National Jungle events catering for tens of thousands of party goers. These events not only provided music but were more of an experience involving a high standard of visual production and a stromg emphasis on creating an uplifting experience for its customers. Through this work Bushdoctor quickly became recognised as pioneers of the Jungle Music market and recognised by many as being responsible for the transition of this underground scene to that of a new music genre created in the U.K.. Unfortunately as more inexperienced promoters got involved with the scene some events started to attract the wrong crowd which led to fights at these events. At this point it was decided to stop holding these events as we felt we could no longer guarantee the safety of our members. However the scene has continued and the music has become popular among students and much of the music (known known as drum and bass) is now in the charts and used for adverts for advertising campaigns for national companies. Jungle is now an international scene we have been hearing the request from many party goers over recent years to re start Bushdoctor events so by popular demand we have reformed to create an experience from now to be known as The Doctor.
