About The goal of Nexşe is to help increasing awareness about Kurdistan among the public. Due to the occupation of Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey many of the geographical places in Kurdistan have been forced new names. In the Nexşe map the original names are used, such as Amed, Hewlêr, Kobanî and Sine – not Diyarbakır, Erbil, Ayn al-Arab and Sanandaj. Some people say Kurdistan does not exist. We say, Kurdistan is not a nation state. True! But it has determined borders, although they are not official nor are they recognized by the international community. Kurdistan means the land of the Kurds (compare to Scottland), its border are determined by the thousands of years old Kurdish settlements in the area - not by colonial decisions. The maps of Nexşe show these historical borders. There are two basic sources, one is the famous book of Sharafnama by medieval historian Sharaf Khan Bidlisi and the other is the map of Kurdistan presented by the Kurdish delegation to the first session of the United Nations at San Francisco in 30th of March 1945 (see the map Here). The maps of Nexşe has more than one thousand cities and villages with the historical names, some of the names are Kurdish, other are Aramaic or of other indigenous languages. On the map, within the Kurdistan borders, the labels have the Latin-Kurdish alphabet, outside of it and in the info box its in English. Many request a map of Kurdistan like the map of Nexşe, such as individuals, companies and associations. Some buyers are teachers other are parents. Another group of buyers are patriotic Kurdistanis or people who support Kurds and Kurdistan. Since Kurdistan is not independent and it is also divided among four states, a natural capital is not obvious. The map of Nexşe have two capitals (stars). Multiple capitals are rare but they do exist, at least 15 countries have multiple capitals. One of the most famous countries is South Africa with three capitals: Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein. The two capitals of Kurdistan are Hewlêr, the Legislative capital, and Amed, the Judicial capital. The first, is thus were the National Assembly, government and president residence would be located and the latter is were The Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court would be located. Both cities are capitals and equal in this status. At the moment Hewlêr (Erbil) is in fact the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. And Amed (Diyarbakır) has had a historical role as capital in several empires through history. The maps of Nexşe are named after mountains in Kurdistan: Korek, Karox, Nemrûd, Agirî, Cûdî, Biradost and Elwend. Nexşe mean map in Kurdish, it is pronounced as nékhshé. Some Kurds use the word xarite, however, this is an Arabic loanword. This video shows the regions of Kurdistan regions. And this video shows the map up close.
