About a week ago I was sitting across a table from my girlfriend in a restaurant and said to her, “You know what? This might sound a little crazy, but there’s a chance I can shoot ‘True North’ next month,” next month meaning this September. But the more I think about it the more it sounds like a crazy or bad idea. Yes, the “True North” script has been written and polished, but there are still a lot of things that need to be figured out. We haven’t decided on the cameras we’re going to shoot with. We haven’t gotten an American Legion baseball uniform, and we haven’t secured our actress or actor. For next month being only a week away, there simply isn’t enough time to shoot the film. Even if we find an actress, she needs to read the script—and then after reading it she might not want to do it—and we still haven’t had a table reading yet. Yes, it might be a little disappointing that we thought we could shoot the film next month, but the truth is it’s better to be well-prepared then sorry. This is my first film, and I am not going to let being too anxious to ruin or jeopardize the quality of the film. Yes, there might be a lot of waiting time over the winter to shoot “True North”, but it is also the perfect time to write “Park Bench” plus “Truer North”. Yes, I am thinking about a sequel to “True North”. If you know someone who would be interested in costarring or playing the part of 25-30-year-old Mango in “True North”, please pass the message onto her, so that we can give her the opportunity to read the script. “True North” will require a lot of memorization, but there will be plenty of time over the winter to do so. It’s more good news than bad news. “True North” will officially be shot in the summer of 2014. Contact writer/director Matt Janacone: mattjanacone@hotmail
