About a year and a half ago I found myself in French Hills office, president of Delta Trust and Bank, waiting to discuss a mostly untested policy idea for how a private bank could help kids save money. I had emailed the report ahead of time but had brought a copy with a one paragraph summary, assuming that he would not have had the time to read it. Much to my surprise, he had the report in his hand with the corner showing multiple creases. Not only had he read it, he had assembled a team to implement it. The rest is history. He arranged for savings accounts with starter deposits and special coding for the savings program. These were kids from the toughest areas of Little Rock, so he went the extra mile and took the bank to them, sending tellers with ipads to get them signed up. For almost a year we have been running drawings for amazing prizes based on how much the kids have added to their savings accounts. Bottom line--this little creased report has worked when most banks around the country havent been able to crack the code for how to incentive kids to save. Kids have saved money against all odds, but most importantly they have learned that they can trust banks. It has made my heart sad to see some of the mud slung at French Hill in the last few months with wild accusations, but I know that is part of a game. I just want to shine some light on the truth of a banker with not only business and policy savvy but with a heart. I know my meeting with this banker could not have been the only one, and we may never know all the charitable efforts that he has taken on in this community. I proudly support J French Hill and ask that you also consider a vote for this incredible man who will bring smart and heart-felt policy decisions to DC.
