About one to 10 cats out of every 10,000 vaccinated against infectious diseases develop cancer at the vaccine injection site – which is a problem when the current recommendation is for injections to be below the elbow or the knee join in the leg, and that the most effective treatment in the event of such a cancer is amputation of a limb. But a new study, recently published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, report that administering vaccinations in the tip of the cat’s tail appears to be as effective as vaccines at traditional sites.
