About two years ago I had an interview with a media startup. Seemed an interesting position but based in Cork. I went down for the interview and was thoroughly unimpressed. It just didnt strike me as having a viable funding model nor a valuable output. The CEO didnt seem to have any idea about how media works, and particularly the internet. But I was so desperate for a job at the time I waited anxiously by the phone ready to leap at this opportunity to uproot my family to go live in Cork to work for a company I had no faith in, just on the chance I was wrong. But the call never came. It seems I was interviewed to put the fear of God into a few underperforming employees I mightve replaced (this was actually said to me), or maybe somebody with more of a conscience than faith in the enterprise didnt want me uprooting to Cork for this risky endeavour. Either way, the company went belly up last year. Im super glad I didnt get that call. Ive never had a plan collapse on me that didnt turn out to be for the better.
