Absolutely delighted to receive this wonderful review on Trip Advisor from a couple of our Christmas guests from across the pond! Dont leave it so long before you return.... Serenity and Classic Elegance In Nov 2014 my wife said, I wonder if we can go back to Storrs Hall for Christmas. We were there in Aug 04 with my father, who has since passed away. This time we purchased the 4-day Christmas package for two and flew the pond, first spending 2 nights in London before taking the train from Euston station to Lake Windermere, Englands largest lake. We picked up our rental car and drove the 2 miles through Windermere and Bowness to Storrs Hall. Upon arriving, we checked into our room 19 overlooking the lake and took high tea in the sitting room. We then managed a quick nap on our comfortable king bed before dinner. Storrs Hall is still a charming and serene restored 30-room Georgian mansion, and some things have improved since our visit 10 years ago. First, the interior public areas have recently been refurbished, giving them a pleasant contemporary look while retaining a classic elegance. Second, the head chef, Conor Toomey, and his kitchen team prepare extraordinary meals, some of the best we have ever experienced in our travels. He comes to Storrs Hall from a prestigious 2 Michelin, 5AA location in England. The layering of taste in his food is remarkable. Third, the Storrs Hall staff was, without exception, friendly and helpful. We particularly thank manager Sarah and Fred who made us feel like family. When leaving, we felt as if we were leaving a member of our family behind. As of Jan 15 Storrs Hall is beginning upgrades to the guest rooms and baths. They are doing this in stages to maintain a sufficient number of rooms for guests. Once these upgrades are complete, Storrs Hall should nudge closer to 5 stars from its current 4-star overall rating. While there, we shopped in Windermere, Bowness and nearby Kendal, took the Lake Windermere ferry, and experienced Christmas Eve service at a local church. Close by are the homes of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Englands Lake District is a special place. People from the UK and Europe travel here often to relax and rejuvenate themselves. We did that over Christmas at Storrs Hall, a place worth flying the pond to visit once again.
