Abu Dhabi to Host the Open Water Swimming World Cup 2015 Abu Dhabi will host on March 15, 2015 the 10km open water Swimming World Cup. The event will be held under the organizing and supervision of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council ADSC in cooperation with the International Swimming Federation and the Emirati Swimming Federation. The 10km open water Swimming World Cup is one of six competitions supervised by the International Swimming Federation since 2007, as well as being one of the most important international swimming events of the International Swimming Federation. The 10km open water Swimming competitions were also included in the Olympic Games since 2008 in Beijing. Abu Dhabi will play host to the 2015 world cup edition of the 10km open water swimming in line with its ambitious plans to host many prominent international sporting events to solidify its name and image as a highly distinguished hub for world-class sporting events. The hosting of such events will also contribute to developing various types of sporting activities in Abu Dhabi in line with the Abu Dhabi Government Plan 2030. This event is one of the fruitful outcomes of the ADSC’s partnership agreement with the International Triathlon Union ITU as more than 2000 triathlon athletes from 40 countries from around the world are excepted to take part in the Abu Dhabi 10km open water Swimming World Cup 2015. This event will not be the only international event for ADSC in 2015 as there will be many events including the Abu Dhabi Cycling World Tour in the period 8-11 October and the International Basketball Federation FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final on 15 and 16 October 2015. The organizing and hosting of these events is based on the instructions of H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, to assure the name and position of Abu Dhabi as a highly distinguished hub for international and world- class sporting events. The Abu Dhabi 10km open water Swimming World Cup 2015 will be preceded by a preparatory swimming championship to be held on 21st February 2015, and will be supervised by the international swimming federation. Commenting on the holding of this event in Abu Dhabi, H.E. Aref Hamad Al Awani- General Secretary of ADSC, said: “The Abu Dhabi 10km open water Swimming World Cup 2015 is just one of our ongoing endeavors and effective steps towards the development of swimming sports in Abu Dhabi.” “We will continue hosting and organizing such world-class events as that will prove our prominent presence in the map of global and international sporting championships.” Al Awani concluded his stamen saying: “We are so keen to have effective international partnerships that will be beneficial for the development of our sports and prosperity.” Al Awani thanked the International Swimming Federation and the Emirati Swimming Federation for their appreciated cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. For his part, Ahmed Al Falasi, Chairman of the Emirati Swimming Federation, said the cooperation with the ADSC will open new horizons for the development of swimming sports in our country. He spoke about the importance of the 10km open water Swimming World Cup indicating that the success of this upcoming event will reflect our competencies, abilities and capabilities to host and to organize prominent international sporting championships.
