Abya Yala > $hile < Wallmapu - WETRIPANTU and conflict environmental LICANRAY communities Mapuche commemorates new year to shores of the Melilawen River. You have entered to the system of evaluation impact environmental (SEIA), via EIA, without consultation with the communities affected according to international standard (Convention 169 of the ILO among other instruments) project which aims to build a plant of treatment of wastewater in Licanray. If approved, the plant would be installed on the banks of the river Melilawen (four remedies), sacred and ceremonial space where held Wetripantu (new year Mapuche which coincides with the winter solstice and the return of the Sun in the southern hemisphere). This treatment, carried out by waters Araucanía SA plant, would ultimately liquid waste treated to Lake Calafquén contaminating its pristine waters, directly affecting the life and economic development (mainly tourism, but also agriculture) in the region. In addition, the crystal clear waters of the river Melilawen, a mapuche sacred space would be involved. This situation, puts on alert representatives and members of inhabitants and neighbouring communities of the Lof Mapu (territory) Lican Ray, as well as other neighbors and tourists who have joined the demonstrations. On June 22, was held as usual the Wetripantu with a yellipun on the banks of the River, to ask the Nen (spiritual forces) of the territory to protect the Melilawen and give strength to the Mapuche to defend the pure waters that feed the vast nature and biodiversity of the place. Arose then, in this context of concern, a Nvtramkan (dialogue, exchange of views and proposals) to organize and act together once again in defence of the ancestral land, the purity of rivers, natural heritage, or Itrofil Mogén (biodiversity), and thus, keep the Küme Mogén (good life) communities. This socio-environmental conflict is transverse and one more than many that are happening at the same time in different mapuche territories (and throughout Chile). To mention a few: hydroelectric dams on Pilmaiquen, Neltume, Kurarrewe; fish farming in Chesque; forest industry in large part of the Wallmapu, among many others that pass to carry not only the Earth, but rather more serious still, the spirituality and the mapuche culture, directly and closely related to nature.
