Academics Day 4: Math and Science Math: Students are building a trebuchet and a catapult in class to investigate parabolic trajectory. Initially, students constructed small scale models that launched marshmallows. “We do fun and engaging activities to reinforce what we are learning. In class, we built catapults and weighed chickens through their growth from birth to slaughter. Steve’s math class has changed my perspective on math and I’ll never forget it.” Lena Rich, North Yarmouth Academy. Science: Natural History of the Maine Coast students are investigating forest Ecology and in class we are learning to identify and distinguish trees just by looking closely at their twigs and buds. On field trip, we have been expanding our view to look at a patch of woods on the Neck to see how succession is playing out. This involved marking out quadrants and surveying trees, and students are beginning to learn how trees make a living and acclimate to ensure winter survival.
