Academy Award nominated actor Burgess Meredith was born on this day in 1907. He rose to fame after starring in the film Of Mice and Men (1939) and went on to star in Second Chorus (1940) and The Story of G.I. Joe (1945). He played the role of the Penguin in the 1966 Batman movie as well as the popular television series. He received the Academy Award Best Supporting Actor nomination twice for his roles in The Day of the Locust (1975) and Rocky (1976), a role which he would reprise in Rocky II (1979) and Rocky III (1982).
