According to Matt Ridley the planet is getting greener, no despite of the economic growth but because of it. No we dont need to hunt animals for oil or skin, we dont need to cut trees, and also plants use C02 to grow in photosynthesis. So now the same ground is useful for more food, so we need less grown for farming and more ground is back to nature. In countries where use less petroleum they cut more trees.
