According to Nobel-Prize winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman, we experience approximately 20,000 individual moments in a waking day. Each moment lasts a few seconds. The memorable moments are almost always positive or negative emotions.Rarely a neutral encounter stay in our minds. In some cases, a single encounter can change our lives. 9 out of 10 people say they are more productive when they are around positive people . Marriages are significantly more likely to succeed when couples interactions are near 5 to 1 ratio of positive to negative. The frequency of small, positive acts is critical. Workgroups with positive to negative interaction ratios of more than 3 to 1 are significantly more productive than the workgroups that do not reach this ratio. However, things can worsen if the ratio goes higher than 13 to 1 and decrease productivity. Negative emotions can lead to serious problems. The damaging results of stress, anger and hostility on the mind and body. In contrast, positive emotions can buffer us against adverse health effects and depression. They enable faster recovery from pain, trauma and illness. Also, positive emotions might lead to an increase in life span by 10 years.
