According to a new Duke University study, visits by nurses to newborn babies’ homes reduces expensive emergency care costs. The program, called Durham Connects, cost an average of $700 per family. The Durham Connects program allows a few brief visits from nurses to provide care to newborn babies and recommend patients to other services in the community. Infants in the program had 50 percent fewer instances of emergency care, saving thousands of dollars in care cost. The positive results extended a year after birth, long after the nurse visits concluded. Do you have a similar program affiliated with your facility or within your community?
