According to the CDC, the typical American caregiver is a woman around age 46 providing about 20 hours per week of unpaid care to disabled or elderly family members. The combination of lower wages and breaks in their careers to care for others sets more women up for poverty in retirement. NH social workers and citizens advocates look at ways in which a bill before Congress would help caregivers catch up financially.
