According to the Metro, Arsene Wenger is desperate to make the 25-year-old his fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina. Previous reports have suggested the Gunners were close to signing Reus earlier this summer before pulling out over concerns about his ankle ligament injury, which ruled him out of the Germany squad for the World Cup. It is understood he has a £19.8million release clause in his contract that comes into effect in a year’s time, although Arsenal have the funds to offer above that this summer. Reus has also rejected a new contract with Dortmund, indicating his long-term future is away from the Westfalenstadion after two impressive years that have seen him score 42 goals. Liverpool are also believed to be interested, as well as Bayern Munich who would like to reunite the player with his former teammates Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski at the Allianz Arena.
