According to this book that I am reading, Elisha Tarvin, a "mulatto" or mixed slave(was likely either Black/White or Black/Indian; parental background unknown), who is said to be my great-great-great grandfather from a plantation owned by William Tarvin II in what is now Baldwin County, Alabama(Formerly Mississippi Territory), eventually purchased 40 acres of land w/ cash in 1820, which was eventually increased to 120.125 acres in 1839, that was passed down through family & is still owned by family & is expected to have been purchased from the Tarvin family after William II & some other family members were killed in the Fort Mims Massacre, near what is now modern-day Mobile, Alabama on Aug. 30, 1813; led by Chief Peter McQueen & William "Chief Red Eagle" Weatherford also known as Lamochattee, through an organization called the "Red Sticks". The massacre was carried out in an effort to minimize European-American settlement. Chief Red Eagle was the half-brother of Theresa Ann Tate, both children of an Indian Princess known as Sehoy III of the Wind Clan of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, which was said to be the highest ranking clan of the nation @ the time. Elisha Tarvin & Theresa Ann Tate married in 1827 & are both considered grandparents of my great-grandmother Carrie Tarvin by way of her father, Byron Tarvin, a son of Elisha & Theresa.
