Accused in Flippie assault case acquitted FARM manager, Wilhelm “Dozi” Treurnicht, broke down in the dock of the Worcester Magistrate’s Court after being acquitted on charges of assault against Flippie Engelbrecht. Tears streaming down his cheeks, Treurnicht turned to face his family who had been sitting in the gallery. They gathered to hug in the courtroom where, minutes earlier, Magistrate Kenneth Peters found him not guilty on the charge related to an incident on January, 25, 2008. The State alleged that Treurnicht, the manager of Rietvallei Wine Estate in Robertson, participated in an assault on Flippie Engelbrecht, a farmworker’s son – Engelbrecht’s head was allegedly rammed against a wine tank and he was kicked repeatedly. Engelbrecht had been 13 at the time and his parents Flip and Katrina, worked as farm labourers. Engelbrecht, now 19, claimed his current blindness and epilepsy were a result of the assault. Treurnicht denied assaulting Flippie and had pleaded not guilty.
