Aces Promoted To PSL Promotion/Relegation Play-offs Full Time: Chippa United 0-0 MP Black Aces Date: 26 June 2013 Venue: Cape Town Stadium A goalless draw in the Promotion/Relegation Play-off match between Chippa United and MP Black Aces at the Cape Town stadium on Wednesday night will see the Mpumalanga side promoted to the Absa Premiership next season. Aces only needed a point to ensure promotion to the PSL and they defended resolutely on the night to ensure they came away with the draw while the loss for Chippa sees them relegated to the National First Division. Chances on goal were few and far between in the first 45 minutes as both teams squandered possession with some wasteful passing and useless long balls over the top. Aces did suffer an early setback, though, as Enrico Adolph had to leave the field injured in the 16th minute and was replaced by Omar Hendricks. And it was Hendricks who had the first real attempt on goal ten minutes later as he fired a 25-yard free-kick narrowly wide. Petrus Ngebo had Chippa’s first chance of the half in the 33rd minute as he pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the box, but he fired his snap shot wide of the post. Seven minutes later and Ngebo had a golden opportunity to give Chippa the lead, but he headed a right wing cross against the left-hand post from six-yards out with an empty net begging. There were no other decent chances in the half as the stanza ended 0-0 which favoured Aces who only need a draw to ensure promotion into the PSL. The second 45 saw Chippa putting concerted pressure on the Aces goal, but for all their possession and dominance they were unable to fashion regular chances in front of goal. Welcome Qalanto, though, did have a good scoring opportunity in the 58th minute when he found himself in space 16-yards out with the ball at his feet, but his shot was a timid one and easily saved by the keeper. The next chance on goal came in the 76th minute as Andile Mbenyane met a right wing cross, but he headed his effort wide of the post. As the match drew to a close Chippa threw numbers forward in search of the goal that would give them a chance of staying in the PSL, but in doing so they left themselves exposed to the counter-attack. Aces, however, failed to take advantage of that in the 81st minute as Dennis Masina found himself one-on-one with the keeper on the break, but Tashrique Goldman came up with a great close range save. Three minutes from time, second half substitute, Stanton Lewis should really have given Chippa the lead when he was left unmarked six-yards out from goal as he met a left wing cross, but he failed to direct his header on goal. The match ended 0-0 ensuring Aces, on seven points in the mini-league format, will play in the top flight next season while Chippa have been relegated to the NFD.
