Acid Survivors Foundation of India Hosts “Art with a Heart” - A Painting Exhibition & Auction for the Welfare of Acid Survivors – The inauguration of “Art with a Heart”, an initiative by the Acid Survivors Foundation of India (ASFI) for the benefit of acid survivors was held on 23rd August 2013. ASFI is one of the leading NGO in India for prevention of acid burn violence as well as for providing support services to survivors. The exhibition was inaugurated today by Smt. Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State, Department of Law & Judicial Services (Independent Charge) & Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengaland Mr. Fabrice Etienne, Consulate General De France, Kolkata at 18 Ballygunge Circular Road. A group of renowned artists from West Bengal including MrWasimKapoor have painted for this noble cause and supported the initiative. Also, present during the occasion were Mrs Krishna Chakraborty, Chairman, Bidhan Nagar Municipality, Mrs . Smita Bakshi, MLA & Chairperson, Borough IV, KMC, Dr. H.P. Kanoria, Chairman, ASFI, actress June Malia along with Acid Survivors. One of the main attractions of the programme was the auction of paintings by Ms Rita Bhimani. On 26th August 2013 ASFI organized a Panel Discussion on “Crime against woman with special emphasis on acid violence, in the light of recent developments and its impact”.The program was inaugurated by Dr. H. P. Kanoria, Chairman of ASFI who welcomed the panelists and students participating in the programme. The panelists were Mr. P. B. Dasani, Administrator of Chowringhee High School, Dr. Prasenjit Saha, Master Trainer Global Fund, Mr. Sandhi Mukherjee, Retired Inspector General of Police, Mr. Debashish Banerjee, Advocate Human Resource Law Network and Mrs. Swati Chatterjee, Secretary of South Kolkata “Sannidhya”. The moderator of the panel discussion Mr. P. B. Dasani summarized the different issues and suggestions made by the speakers. This was followed by an interactive session in which school students participated.
