Across the world, Muslims and others—including some Jewish activists, entertainers, and scholars—have condemned Israel’s horrific attacks of Gaza from land, air and sea. These relentless attacks have killed hundreds of Palestinian—mostly civilians—and, more sadly, the innocent children. Said lopsided aggression that has been unfolding before our eyes not only presents a moral dilemma but a litmus test to people of conscience around the world. Likewise, to all international institutions such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, UN Security Council, UN Human Rights Council, and all civilized nations who could weigh in to stop this senseless aggression. There is irrefutable deficiency in goodwill, credibility, and honest brokerage that compels us to think outside the old regional political calculus. In his recent visit to the Holy Land, Pope Francis has set a new precedent by equally engaging Jews, Christians, and Muslims. With that approach, he may have sown the seed of what could become a new paradigm for peace dialogue and settlement in the Holy Land. We must build on that precedent to ensure that leaders from all three Abrahamic faiths find space in the round table of dialogue. After all, at hand is a conflict that is deeply rooted in faith.(Excerpts from The World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists statement on Gaza)
