Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams is denying reports that he declared the alleged Section 34 emails to be fake. Addressing the matter in a press conference this morning, Williams said he was misquoted by an Express newspaper report published more than two weeks ago. According to the article, he said: "Those documents are purporting to be emails but they are not. They are fake." However, Williams said today that he would have to be crazy to say such a thing while the investigation is in progress. He also expressed disappointment in the statement released by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul last Thursday, in which she said his alleged comments were "shockingly irresponsible and grossly reckless". Williams said it was unfortunate that she took action based on a newspaper report rather than contacting him for clarity.
