Published: Friday November 1, 2013 MYT 12:00:00 AM Updated: Friday November 1, 2013 MYT 7:50:43 AM Penang doubles water surcharge EmailFacebook13GEORGE TOWN: From today, consumers in Penang will have to pay double the water conservation surcharge (WCS) for every 1,000 litres if they use more than 35,000 litres each month.Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) Sdn Bhd said the WCS has been gazetted in accordance with the Water Services Industry Act 2006 and takes effect today.The surcharge is 48 sen per 1,000 litres compared to 24 sen per 1,000 litres before.PBAPP general manager Jaseni Maidinsa said domestic water consumers would only be affected if they used more than 35,000 litres per month.“Seventy-two per cent of the 460,966 domestic users will not be affected. Only 28% of high volume domestic consumers would be affected. However, they can choose to reduce consumption to avoid WCS,” he said in a statement yesterday.Jaseni said if a household’s bi-monthly water bill is RM21.40 or less per month, then they would not be affected by WCS.
