ActionAid South Africa: Child Sponsorship Officer Opportunity closing date: Thursday, August 28, 2014 Opportunity type: Employment ActionAid South Africa (established in 2006) is a South African organisation that is a member of the international ActionAid federation, a global movement of people working together to further human rights and defeat poverty. We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified candidate to join the Child Sponsorship Unit. The incumbent should be a passionate outgoing individual who will fill the role of Child Sponsorship Officer. The purpose of the role is to provide efficient administration of sponsorship services in designated Local Rights Programmes (LRPs) in liaison with CS Coordinator, CS Officer, and CS Communications Officer. Availability: 1 October 2014 Location: Johannesburg, South Africa An attractive remuneration package ranging from R186 000 to R200 000. Main Duties may include, but not limited to: • Facilitate and participate in New Local Rights Programmes (LRPs) start-ups and undertake a sponsorship appraisal of the area; • Undertake a sponsorship appraisal of the LRP area; • Work with others in the production and layout of community thematic reports; • Write Progress Reports and Newsletters; • Disseminate sponsorship policies and activities to partners and community members; • Build the capacity of other staff and partners on sponsorship policies, procedures and activities; • Respond to routine enquiries from sponsors and relevant stakeholders; • Work with LRP partner(s) on annual development plans and budgets; • Regular management of all relevant databases; • Plan and coordinate appropriate training programmes for sponsorship Partner and Volunteer training on child sponsorship policies; • Other related duties deemed necessary to meet the needs of AASA. Key requirements: • Social Sciences Degree or Equivalent work related experience. The ideal candidate should have the following experience: • At least 2-3 years’ experience in community development programmes; • At least 2-3 years’ experience in relevant funding and child development work; • Writing and producing concise and accurate reports to agreed deadlines; • Excellent interpersonal, networking, negotiation and communication skills in English and other local languages • Proficiency in the use of standard computer software, especially Microsoft Office; • Oral and written communication skills; • Clean and valid driver’s licence; • Commitment to ActionAid International’s mission, vision and values as well as relief and development work; • Experience / Knowledge of the civil society / international NGO environment would be an advantage; • Must have a high level of integrity. Behavioural competencies and skills • A motivated self-starter with initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm; • Proactive communicator, ability to build relationships and provide support across a range of work areas; • Good organisational and time management skills and the ability to work on a number of projects at once; • Ability and preparedness to travel and work in difficult conditions, and often to rural and urban areas; • Strong cross cultural awareness, able to work effectively with diverse working styles; • Can work both independently, as well as with others.
