Activate LATENT TALENTS! Victor Ochieng’- ‘a pen in God’s hand’ There’re flesh and blood (people) in the land of the living with world-class talents, and lustrous gifts; but dormant and unproductive. Such people, are sleeping lions, or sleeping giants—because they have inner exponential potentials—which aren’t put into maximum use. In other words, they are diamonds in the rough. And diamond isn’t precious unless it’s taken from the rough—and used to make bedecking ornaments like bangles… According to the lexicon (dictionary)—a [talent] is an in-born natural ability i.e. gift, skill, and potential— to do something. But [latent] imply: existing, but not yet very noticeable, active, or very well-developed. Latent also can mean (of quality or state)—existing but not yet developed, or manifest; hidden; concealed. Therefore, latent talents refer to talents that people have, but they’re passive, not active—not put into serious use. Talents that looks fallow like overused land. We have people with ability and agility of the mind; but the wonder of wonders; they’ve totally refused to engage in critical and creative thinking. Copious research has revealed that the mind of a human being is potent (powerful), than eighteen (18) amalgamated computers. It has also been established that most human beings give up the ghost when they’ve only used an eighth (1/8) of their minds. If indeed, the brain is like a computer, then there’re many people who pass on when there have some folders and files, in their minds—unused, yes—untouched. That’s why the American prolific author-cum-tele-evangelist (Dr. Myles Munroe); in his book The Kingdom Principle, opines: The richest place in the world isn’t the rich gold mines in S. Africa, or the lush diamond mines in Congo DRC—the richest place is the grave-yard. Because in the unmerciful grave, they’re world-class talents that were never used, songs never sung, books never published, poems never composed, banks never registered et cetera et cetera. This reminds us the parable of the talents—narrated by Jesus Christ. There was a lazy and crazy servant who after being given precious talents by the master, went and buried the talents deep in the soil. He never knew that such an act would eventually foil and spoil the joy and jolly of the master. From Proverbs 18:16, we come to a full realization that a person’s gift or talent opens vast doors, for him/her—and ushers him/her before great men. If you’re a Thomas, then ask the young man who used his consummate skill of drawing, to craft the president of Kenya. He received a phone call to state house from His Excellency Uhuru .M. Kenyatta. Upon receiving the phone call of the premier, profound shell-shock changed the flip-flop of his heartbeat, to a drumbeat. That’s the potency of talents. Your talent can make you dine and wine with the kings. May your innate talents and God-given gifts locate you, and crown you with distinction. vochieng.90@gmail
