Acts 20:35~I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is MORE blessed to give than to receive. What can you give? I have heard this scripture used to lure folks into Happily giving. But I want to open your mind up to really look at what this scripture is saying. Paul said, I have shewed you! He set forth the example that they could follow. How he labored to support the weak? His labour was the fact that he risked his life to preach them the word of God first and foremost! Because what he had received on the day of Pentecost would supply all their needs after that. When the Holy Ghost came, many gave all they had to the church and it was distributed to everyone as they had need. They continued daily in the temple praying and praising God for the GREATER gift. I hope you understand this message today. It is good to give – nothing wrong with that. The bible tells us to “Seek ye first the kingdom of God.” As we LOOK UP, we will learn to put ALL things in proper perspective and order down here. Paul had received what all those before were looking for…the promise of POWER! And Jesus had given them the charge to spread the gospel all over the world beginning at Jerusalem, but commanded them not to go do anything until they be endued with POWER from on high. Don’t allow the obsession with what you give to be more important than being the instrument God is requiring you to be. He may have you give $1.00 or IT ALL! Have the mind to BE RIGHT first and then you will GIVE RIGHT!
