Acts 24:1 - 9. Jews Brought Charges - TopicsExpress

Acts 24:1 - 9. Jews Brought Charges Against Paul The Jewish High Priest, Ananias engaged a professional lawyer, Tertullus, to bring charges against Paul before Felix, the Roman Governor of Judea. (This was a position previously occupied by Pontus Pilate.) Read vs. 2-3 again. Was this opening remark a sincere compliment as court courtesy or an attempt to win favour from the Governor? The three key charges againt Paul were (vs. 5-7): 1. Trouble maker, who stirs up riots. This suggested that Paul stirred up rebellion against Rome. 2. A ring leader of a religious sect, the Nazarenes. The Nazarenes refers to Christians; so called after Jesus hometown of Nazareth. The implication was that the Nazarenes operated without Government permission and therefore were likely rebellious against Rome. 3. He defiled the Temple Jerusalem. The charges framed him up as a dangerous enemy of both the Roman government and the Jews in order to persuade Felix to execute him. What the lawyer did are they different from what our lawyer do today in our courts of law? Have you ever experienced an individual or a group of people bringing verbal or written charges against you to falsely accuse you? How did you feel? Lawyer Tertullus invited Governor felix to cross-examine Paul to determine for himself the truth of the charges (8). #Prayer: we should about the administration of justice in our country. Let us also again for judges, lawyers and the entire judicial.
