Actually the minimum wage and immigration solution is available and it is up to us to vote people in that are committed to it. A better way to raise wages would be to honestly restrict immigration and have no amnesty but total fast track approval type reform. Our technology should be able to have most immigrants approved or denied within 6 months instead of 6 years. It is ludicrous that the system is so complex that arriving illegally or coming legally and over-staying is the best option. Immigration that is tied to unemployment in some way would help regulate wages through a law of supply and demand. We could just adjust the immigration levels to make the labor market a scarce commodity. Make corporations compete for fewer workers and let supply and demand dictate salaries and wages. Raising minimum wage does not work that good usually, but a smaller labor pool results in better pay, better benefits, better working conditions as the employers compete for employees instead of what it is not with employees groveling for jobs. An even better side effect is employees can move from job to job without fear of losing income. This will not happen most likely because both parties benefit from base support for keeping the status quo and one party gains voter support. Both parties have corporate and union sponsorship too. We need to be pressuring them for change that benefits the average person alright, and this would do it.
