‘Adamawa intending pilgrims to emerge through raffle draw’ Intending pilgrims to this year’s pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia from Adamawa will emerge through a raffle draw, Alhaji Salisu Danjuma, the Executive Secretary of the State Pilgrims Welfare Board, has said. Danjuma, who made this known to newsmen in Yola yesterday, said the policy was adopted following the reduction in the number of seats allocated to states by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). He said after the reduction in the number of seats, the state now has 1,828 slots compared to 2,285 seats last year, saying before the raffle draw, the board would first of all remove the names of those who had performed hajj before. “After removing the names of those who have performed hajj before, we will consider the rest based on the principle of ‘first-come first-serve.’ After that, we will look at those who are regular in attending our enlightenment programmes on hajj. If the number is still above the seats allocated to the state, we will then conduct a raffle draw,” he said. (NAN)
