Added: 11.03.2014 Closing: 18.03.2014 Systems Engineer ICT / IT / Web AfriNIC Plaine Wilhems Permanent Introduction Under the supervision of the Head of IT & Engineering, you will be responsible for all activities necessary to properly run, maintain and improve AFRINIC’s systems that relate to the provisioning and support of member services. You will be responsible to ensure timely recovery of systems in case of failure. Functional Responsibilities Functional Responsibilities: Elaborate/Improve enterprise wide system standard; Define database backup and recovery strategy; Define and implement security procedures to ensure availability, integrity and confidentiality of systems; Monitor system’s performance, identify and make corrections or recommendations to resolve problems or improve performance; Write/review project specifications outlined by design requirements, flowcharts and diagrams; Write/review IT procedures in compliance with best practices; Install, supervise the installation and upgrade of systems and other IT hardware; Participate in the integration of the organizational Information System architecture; Perform preventive maintenance, tune system to ensure optimum system performance; Participate in maintaining critical systems uptime to 99.999%; Make software and hardware design recommendations based on AFRINIC’s database requirements; Participate in system analysis, requirements analysis, software review, system risk analysis, software reliability analysis, testing and quality assurance; Train, support members as well as staff on system issues and offer technical expertise; Support systems during off-hours; Perform project management tasks to include overseeing all preparation data collection, performance and completion of critical projects; Strong analytical abilities and professional office experience needed. Skills and Application mode At least a first degree in computer science or related discipline. A Masters degree and IT security certification will be a plus. At least 3 years of job-related experience. Conversant with UNIX/LINUX based operating systems (FreeBSD and CentOS). Conversant with Internet protocols such as IPv4 and IPv6. Conversant with VMware virtual environment, mail software, mailing-list software and RT ticketing system. Ability to support network protocols such as TCP, UDP, SMTP, IMAP, FTP and any other one as deemed necessary by the Unit Manager. Ability to perform security evaluation and vulnerability assessment of systems. Experience with security assessment tools and products, e.g. AppScan, WebGoat, BurpSuite, w3af, etc. Ability to perform tasks with minor supervision. Good interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written skills.
