Additional Street Lighting Added For Safety On Limestone Road Dover -- A dark stretch of Limestone Road, in New Castle County, will be dark no more, as the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), in partnership with Delmarva Power, will install 17 street lights in late November. Lights will be installed along Limestone Road (SR 7) from the intersection of Kirkwood Highway (SR 2), to just south of Hendry Avenue, a distance of about one-third of a mile. This portion of Limestone Road has had a high number of crashes. A total of 148 crashes were reported along Limestone Road, to south of Hendry Avenue, between January 2007 and June 2013, including 39 (26 percent) crashes that occurred during darkness, dusk or dawn. Among those crashes, were three that involved pedestrians at the intersection of Limestone Road and Hendry Avenue, resulting in two fatalities. Delmarva Power will pay for the cost of the lights, which will be installed on existing utility poles. DelDOT will pay the operating costs for the lights. Delmarva Power is pleased to partner with DelDOT in an effort to potentially help curtail current motor vehicle and pedestrian safety and security challenges with improved street lighting throughout the frequently impacted area, said Gary Stockbridge, President of Delmarva Power. Work is expected to begin in mid- to late-November, and be completed in five to ten days, weather pending. During installation, crews will close one lane of Limestone Road at a time, and installation will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
