Additionally, along with African missionaries collaboration, all of the colonial imperialist governments made it illegal and impossible to publicly educate native Africans beyond the 3rd grade. That way, the native Africans knew just enough English or French (two of the common imperialist languages made official in many African countries) to be able to follow road/public rules/instructions in order to be obedient, compliant citizens and easily exploited workers. If they couldnt read or understand a contract then they certainly couldnt negotiate for better wages and education & training for non-labor and management jobs, as well. Many African nations were able to win their political independence by the 1960s and 70s, but without political and economic KNOW-HOW and stability, and without education beyond the third grade, they didnt stand a chance when it came to managing and benefiting from their abundant natural resources on a national and international scale. Most Africans, from average citizens to the highest level in leadership, struggled then and now to find their identity, pride, sense of community & lawful order, and resourcefulness after being enslaved, denigrated, humiliated, discriminated against, uneducated and miseducated, betrayed and suffering the lack of civil order and infrastructure thats common in most all civilized/developed countries. And thats just the tip of the iceberg of what Africans have been struggling to recover from!! Again, no thanks to imperialists, greedy and unscrupulous capitalists, and missionaries.
