On the 23rd of May 1947, the day of the eclipse of the sun, Papa Oshoffa commenced his spiritual journey when he heard the voice “LULI”, meaning the Grace of Jesus Christ. 2. On the 29th of September 1947, Papa Oshoffa received the divine order to go on an errand of preaching and exhortation. 3. On the fifth day after receiving the divine order, Papa Oshoffa established the new church in his own house. 4. The name of the church, Eglise Du Christianisme Celeste (Celestial Church of Christ) was revealed by the Holy Spirit through Mr Alexander Yanga, who was in a 7-day trance and undergoing spiritual healing at the residence of Papa Oshoffa. 5. Papa Oshoffa was allowed by divine order to use the name “Espatoral”, translated as “Pastor” after having spent the first five years since the inception of the church as an Evangelist. 6. The first prophet in Celestial Church of Christ was Emmanuel Mawuyon, who was the son of Papa Oshoffa’s elder sister. 7. Celestial Church of Christ was brought to Nigeria by seven fishermen namely, Francois Honvon, Samuel Gogan, Peter Dossa Sepo, Johana Agossou, Celina Houngbenou, Christine Zannou and Leon Adossou (aka Baba Leyon). 8. Baba Leyon and Baba Samuel Gogan were the first to be elevated to the rank of Leader in the Church in Nigeria. 9. Jesus Christ appeared to Papa Oshoffa twice, both in 1954. The first appearance was at Makoko on the Friday following the third harvest thanksgiving service in Nigeria. The second appearance was at the Lagos Bar Beach during an anointment exercise. 10. On the 24th of November 1958, Celestial Church of Christ became the first spiritual church of “African Origin” to be registered in Nigeria. The Certificate of Registration which was numbered 489, was duly signed by the then Governor-General of the Federation, Sir James Robertson. MORE TO COME LATER......
