Adeyinka Grandson Wrote: To run through Obasanjo’s maze of lies would take a huge effort. It is a long trail from the moment he engaged Nigeria till this moment. Why one so aged opts to lie till the last minute would also be of academic interest. The Buruji Kashamu quest is another interesting one. Because Obasanjo functions like a bullet, he only stops at a harder object or when he loses velocity. He does not really think there are other ways to issues but the pit-bull way. His ram-rodding way. The current hunt of Esho Jinadu, alias Buruji Kashamu is as comic as any of his other episodes. The two-time head of state, who is currently two-timing in a cowardly political posture wants to hunt Kashamu down. Hoping that would give him the kind of leverage in Ogun politics which he thinks he deserves. He knows much better, but he must ram-rod. The truth is, if every power player stepped off in Ogun state and left Obasanjo to run things, he would still manage to lose. Most likely, first in his own ward. The talk about not willing to deal with drug barons which he splashes around is just talk. Obasanjo had been dealing with drug barons and worse for a long time, when he needed them. When he found no further use for them, he dumped them and kept quiet. He was not lying low on Buruji not only because Buruji became a formidable power-player in the politics of Obasanjo’s immediate domain (Ogun state}, but also because Buruji pitched tent with President Goodluck Jonathan. Buruji already told us a lot of what we know and a few we did not. He narrated how Obasanjo took him to Aso Rock and introduces him to the high and mighty. Baraje, Iyabo, Olubolade etc. How he entered Obasanjo’s bedroom, office and the entire nooks in Obasanjo’s house. When did Obasanjo discover Kashamu was a drug baron? The crux here is Buruji’s political positioning. Again, Obasanjo, rich as he is, still loves awuf. Freebies, which come from rich Nigerians who hung around him. Why was it Buruji spending three billion Naira to recover Ogun from Daniel? Obasanjo could have outspent anyone, but he would rather spend his body than spend his money. He, somehow thinks the glory and rewards of the spender would accrue to him. It never quite happened like that. This is why the boys are always stronger than him. In this sorry politics of Nigeria, the spender wins, unless he got outspent. Folks with super-glued palms don’t go very far. This is why the man with such a big frame is so small when the election chips fall. In any case, Obasanjo is juggling two bad balls. He is running from the fry-pan and heading for the fire. If he is feigning a swoon at the powder exploits of Buruji, his former political partner, would it be better for him in the arms of another Chicago graduate? If Buruji was a drug baron, Bola Tinubu was an emperor. So, which churchly children does the gun harbour in its belly? Is it powder or the pellet? This is how Obasanjo works with undesirables and he turns round to accuse them of what he had always known. He has a long list of deputies. A strong arm in every state. The Late Alhaji Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu was his garrison commander in Ibadan. Adedibu’s reputation was worse than drug pushing. Many lost their lives on his orders. Obasanjo was sitting on the president’s stool when Alhaji Tokyo was walked out of Agodi jail, where he had being cooling his heels after he was accused of murder. Murder charges didn’t stick on Obasanjo’s goons. Nigeria watched and retired on the day Tokyo was brought out of jail by Adedibu, by hand. It was the end of a life and the end of justice. In Obasanjo’s reign. One Uba could not lift the other in goodliness, yet, Obasanjo needed the two Ubas to man his eastern flank. One of them was caught in the US with millions of dollars. Simple laundering. During Obasanjo’s reign. The other Uba went on to commit heinous crimes right to the end of the inglorious presidency and even beyond. It took so much to keep the brothers calm after the Obasanjo storm. How many do we talk about? One could only wait for Buruji Kashamu to spill the bean on the overwhelming presence of drug people in and around Obasanjo’s cabinet. Suffice to say that we are getting acquainted with the modus operandi of drug czars who are short at noon and desire to be tall at the dead of night. Esho Jinadu could be Buruji Kashamu. Amoda Ogunlere could be Bola Tinubu etc. Shaka, Ararume, all Obasanjo’s erstwhile buddies who are not being blown on his flute at present. They are all covered. For eight horrid years, Obasanjo sat on the NSA, DSS, NIA, DIA and all the other IAs. He was wining and dining with Buruji Kashamu and he did not know the chap was a drug baron. He only woke up to that reality when he assumed his real size outside Aso Rock. How much shame could an aged man rub as cream? The hatred for Jonathan runs so deep, the man would do anything, including treachery in order to gain an edge over a much better man in office than him. And we do not whiten Goodluck Jonathan, by saying he was a much better man and president than Olusegun Obasanjo. Not many people would be bested by Obasanjo, in or out of office. He goes into agreement with every intention of a certain renege. What shade of person does that? He sat in office and saw a friend of many years killed in his Ibadan home like a fowl. Obasanjo watched as they shuffled investigators over the murder of Ige. They were shuffling them like playing cards. His friend went into the grave as one inconsequential person. Ige was not just Obasanjo’s friend of many years. He was also this man’s Attorney-General. How many other assassinations under his presidency. Many which went as easy as pap, and he was the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. The man talks about Boko Haram today, just as if shame has no meaning. When Boko Haram was building in Zamfara under Yerima, Obasanjo went AWOL. He punishes his friends at the expiration of their friendship. Some of them died in detention. Others were shot on the streets of Nigeria like common criminals. Even if he had a knack for befriending criminals, why must it always be a bloody end? Being a drug baron is despicable, but being an incestuous father and father-in-law is worse. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo should be spending more time on his knees alone with God, but he really does not think God exists. Who thinks God exists and says “C.A.N. my foot.” He was drunk with power. Now, the gobble had moved on and baba is jonsing. That is the way of power. In any case, how much of Obasanjo does the United States need to catch a Kashamu or a Tinubu, if the US was really determined to. They do not intend to catch Kashamu. Nor did they really want to pick Bola Tinubu either. They just wanted them to stay away from the US. They were scared off. Now, Tinubu could go to the US and pretend to be invited to Obama’s event, which was promptly denied. He gate-crashed. Buruji Kashamu too, would be able to enter the US some day, if he stayed away long enough and stayed clean. That is how they treat them. The prisons of the United States are congested. They would need to feed the man, clothe him and spend money on his general welfare. It is not like Obasanjo’s prisons where scabies killed his friend, Afolabi. What about the litigation cost? Buruji could pay attorneys and make it run for a long time. Illinois might not want to spend its money like that if it could help it. Was it not better to scare him off and just let him stay away? There is always the other angle of the baron on the streets becoming a bigger and deadlier baron in the prison. Buruji, from the kind of money they tout into his account, could buy his time in most American prisons. The Americans are not foolish. They look at the total picture. That is a smart country. We could run on about Obasanjo, but it is useless. Like Mr. Tambuwal, he does not know if he should stand tall in the PDP or enter small into APC. So he decided to play the field. If he declares for PDP today, he goes in to shut up. The barons are the ones calling the shots. If he stands up in the PDP, he also shuts up, because the train already left him behind. God knows the likes of Fayose, who have a very bad beef would not take much nonsense from one who could not win his ward at any time. This is why he lives in the lurch. He could not reach the farm, nor could he return home. Baba n ti oko iroko de oko irokoto. When life crashes on the frail, white skulls of elders, it is not the gods. It is the tawdry conduct of shameless elders. Why would an elder lie all life long? – Opele Delphi
