Adiong Faces Civil Society Welcoming questions on anything, the man of the hour cited the Holy Month of Ramadhan despite the controversy in Lanao. In a Lanao del Sur day (July 4) advanced observance, CSOs met Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr who looked back at the leadership of the Alontos (Senators Alauya Domocao) in their service for the Meranao people. The people know better, Adiong said appealing that Meranaos solve problems locally before reaching the national and online so that the latter doesnt label or perceive the Meranaos as corrupt. Answering queries on how he is handling the situation and reports of a group who filed cases against him, he said reports will reflect the true state of infrastructure and other projects (2007 onwards) granted from the barangay to the provincial level from funds from national (ie from the Transition Investment Plan (TISP), regional and LGU. Bidding is done. Some regional projects might not have passed through the province so he may not be able to give the complete information as yet . He said he hasnt received copies of any complaints from the parties concerned. The purpose of civil society he said was to monitor the projects. LDSPC Executive Director Nabihah Noni Lao gave a report (to include cleansing the election process thru Kazalimbago Movement) and recommended the formalization of CSO representation in the Local Special Bodies with an office to support itself. In the presence of Board members, 103rd Brigade Commander Glenn Macasero and heads of the Provincial Capitol at the Social Hall this afternoon, Adiong also expressed concern on a COMELEC Resolution on added registrants in the province which might not be beneficial to the reform process. Calls for reform in ARMM date back to 3 years back when President Aquino pushed for the synchronizing of ARMM elections to 2013 in a law called Republic Act 10153 . A movement, RAN, mobilized metro Moro communities to rally for reforms in Bangsamoro homeland in the heart of Manila, Mendiola. Such rallies spilled in the Senate until a vote for the Synchronization Law was passed. The success of the movement was seen in the passage of RA 10153 by the Senate and eventual signing of the law by President Benigno Aquino III. Ready for a Supreme Court battle, Reform ARMM Now (RAN’s) member organizations also pushed for the Supreme Court (SC) to declare the constitutionality of RA 10153 with Muslim lawyers arguing their case in Manila. President Aquino appointed officers in charge, Governor and Vice-Governor in December 19. CSOs then not only limited itself to a legislative, legal and political lobby, cascading into the cyberworld and media (to as grassroots as remate tabloid), it also organized innovative peace campaigns such as the LAKBAY PARA SA KAPAYAPAAN nation-wide. A Gong for Peace was planted at the Quezon City Hall.
