#Admin_AaTif Stone pelting is sign of resistance: Syed Ali Gilani:- Srinagar, July 27 (SNA): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, and the All Parties Hurriyet Conference have strongly reacted to the assertion of Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad, that pro-freedom leaders are paying money to youth for stone pelting. Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar terming the claim of Ashok Prasad as ridiculous said that stone pelting was a sign of resistance and didn’t need any finance. He said that the Kashmiris were peaceful people and they were resisting the suppression in one form or the other for last several decades. He maintained that the stone pelting was not the creation of Hurriyet leadership as the Kashmiri masses had used stone as a symbol against the Dogra suppression also. “Since 1947, the people have been using stone pelting from time to time as part of struggle,” he added. The veteran leader said that stone pelting was known world over as a symbol of resistance and people resort to it to express their displeasure against foreign occupation or the mis-governance of the governments. Even in European countries where stones are not easily available, the masses give vent to their anger by using eggs and tomatoes, he stated. Syed Ali Gilani said that people in occupied Kashmir were being killed with bullets and pellets for throwing stones while in entire civilized world, angry mobs were controlled by harmless measure and techniques. “Hundreds of youth were killed in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and none of them had gun in their hands. All the killed were students and those who killed are roaming free,” he added. The APHC spokesman in his statement described as baseless the allegation of the police officer. “This is an attempt to hide the ground realities in Kashmir. This is also an attempt to cover up the atrocities by Indian police and troops. Protests by youth are a natural reaction to the atrocities by police and troops. Stone pelting is the result of oppression,” he added.
