Ado-Odo Crisis: Hoodlums That Attacked Me Attempted To Rape My Wife, Oba Tells Panel The traditional ruler of Ado-odo in Ogun State, South West Nigeria, Abdul Lateef Akanni Adeniran, on Monday stunned the Judicial Commission of Enquiry into the crisis in the community when he alleged that the hoodlums who attacked him on 15 April attempted to rape his wife while his crown and other valuable items were carted away. Mr. Akanni, who disclosed this in Abeokuta while giving graphic details of how he was attacked by the hoodlums on the fateful day, said the N1.5 million kept in his palace as at the time of the incident was equally stolen while he was severely beaten, saying that he would have been dead by now but for the grace of God. According to the monarch, “these hoodlums after beating me and stripped me naked proceeded to the palace where all the cars parked in the compound were set ablaze. My family was physically attacked, in fact, my first wife, Alhaja Fausat Adebisi Akanni was assaulted, stripped naked and they even attempted to rape her and was only saved by the arrival of the contingent of Nigerian Army sent to douse the tension.” The monarch, according to a statement by the media officer of the Commission, Ayokunle Ewuoso, listed 51 respondents and six alleged sponsors/financiers of the respondents in his memorandum filed before the commission, adding that he was travelling to Ilaro along with his driver to see the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewa land, Kehinde Olugbenle, when the hoodlums led by one Jaye Falana attacked him. Narrating his ordeal, Mr Akanni disclosed that one Ganiyu Lawal who attempted to rescue him was attacked with machete and clubs to the point of unconsciousness, while he was equally beaten up to the point that he lost consciousness. “Suffice to say that the same treatment was melted out to my driver who only regained consciousness at the Ado-odo Divisional Police Station,” he stated. When asked by the state lead counsel, Yemi Omotola, if he knew what led to the crisis that engulfed the town on the 14th and 15th of April this year, Mr Akanni told the Commission that the Supreme Court judgment that went in his favour in the contest of the headship of the town did not go down well with his opponent, Prince Muniru Odejide and his supporters who had earlier challenged his nomination and approval by his family, Idobarun Ruling House, at a meeting convened on the 8th of April 1993. While accusing his opponent of fanning the embers of discord in the town, the monarch said Prince Odejide and his cohorts had sometimes on June 28th 2003 installed himself as Oba of Ado-Odo when the ruling by the Court of Appeal was still pending. The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Oluwatosin Elizabeth Osinuga, adjourned sitting till Tuesday, adding that the video footage that captured the graphic attack on the Oba as submitted before the commission would be played in the court on Tuesday, June 18. Meanwhile, the Commission has ordered the arrest of one Mr Amosun, an indigene of the town for threatening a witness from giving evidence before the panel. Justice Osinuga gave the order when another indigene of the town told the panel that he was threatened by Mr. Amosun if he dared give any evidence or facts before the Commission. She, therefore, instructed officers of the State Security Service attached to the Commission to arrest and dock the said Mr. Amosun, while warning some other indigenes from threatening Folabi Fasanu, the lead counsel to the embattled monarch.
