Before we look at the here and now, here is something I just want to point out... 1 - When David Moyes was at Everton, his teams were notably slow starters. This meant that is wasnt until Christmas time that they went on a run and would go from relegation candidates to European contenders. 2 - Manchester United notably make a late dash for the title. For example 2002-03 season; they were written out of the race in November after a 3-1 defeat to Man City. Then their revival stumbled after back-to-back defeats over Christmas, however an unbeaten run from January-May won them the league. Also 1995-96 and the famous You cant win anything with kids remark. Slowly, but steadily United crawled there way back in touch with Newcastle and a 1-0 win at St James Park turned the race in their favour and United won it, against all the odds. So lets come back to now. Manchester United lie in 8th place in the Premier League. They have lost three games in the Premier League (Liverpool, Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion) and many have written them out of the title race. But many people are missing the fact that Manchester United are currently in a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions. They are unbeaten in the Champions League so far, They are in the quarter finals of the League Cup and there is evidence that the resilience, spirit and never-say-die attitude hasnt followed Sir Alex Ferguson out the door as proved in the 3-2 win against Stoke. Manchester United are leaking goals but they were doing exactly the same last season and still managed to cruise to the title in comprehensive fashion. So to add to the spirit they showed to claw they way back to victory against Stoke they also have, arguably the best stroke force in the Premier League - Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez, who are all in a rich vain of scoring form. All three scored against Stoke and in all competitions they have scored 18 goals between them (Van Persie eight, Rooney six, and Hernandez four). You could also add Danny Welbeck to that list who has three. These three players have been prolific for both club and country in recent seasons and last season their 48 Premier League goals helped win Manchester United the title and this is what will win it again. This is the first time that they are all fit at the same time with Rooney and Van Persie having difficulties at times earlier in the season but their fitness will mean United are a huge threat to any defence. In addition to this United possibly have the best young prospect in the world in Adnan Januzaj. The 18-year-old ace burst onto the scene in September and after impressing with a couple of substitute appearances, he got his first start and scored to wonder goals to win them the game against Sunderland. More impressive performances have followed so he is not a one-hit wonder; expect more goals because the assists and quality are there for all to see. More games and experience can only help the lad. Moyes is no stranger to teenage super talent. Remember Wayne Rooney? Yes, It was David Moyes who gave him his debut in 2002 and his handling and care to Wayne was crucial in his development and he is now a world superstar and Englands best player. Already the squad is shaping up but many are still convinced it is the worst squad Man Utd have had since the 80s. Well I can understand why some say that but i believe it isnt and that it is a very strong squad if it is used correctly and remains injury free. Shinji Kagawa has struggled to gain first team football. Starts have been few and far between but back to back starts vs Real Sociedad and Stoke have seen him impress so this should mean more games to follow. Moyes is learning about his squad and he is starting to see the talent of the Japanese maestro. Another player is Marouane Fellaini. He is having a frustrating time trying to settle in and a wrist injury isnt helping. Having been Evertons best player when on form he can terrorise defences and boss a game all by himself. Manchester United already have a packed midfield. Carrick will be very hard to shove out of the team so he is in competition with Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley. Fellaini showed signs against Bayer Leverkusen and Shakhtar Donetsk of his offensive and defensive talents. Hes a ball winner, tackler and tough man in midfield, where United may have been short of in previous years. Going the other way his aerial threat in the box. More games and finding his perfect role, whether that be defensive midfielder or further forward, will see him hit top form and he can be a crucial player for United and complete the midfield that has eluded the Red Devils in recent years. Finally I cant help but mention David De Gea who has made the no.1 shirt his own and is probably the reason why im writing this article, arguing my point that Manchester United can still win the title this season. The unbelievable save he made against Sunderland to prevent United going 2-0 down added to crucial saves against Stoke and Southampton that have perhaps won United seven points. Should this happen in games against Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Man City then it can only mean United will win those games which will really turn the tables. To conclude United face Arsenal at Old Trafford in two weeks time and that game could make me look a fool or make me you all read this again and say hes right. Should United win or even take a point from that game it shows they can still compete with the big boys and that Man City and Liverpool simply came too early in Moyes tenure and we then give him the benefit of the doubt. Finally all I can say is, welcome to the most exciting Premier League Season there ever will be.
