Adopt A Backpack!!! First United Methodist Church of Alvarado is currently in the second year of sponsoring & facilitating the Backpack Food Program in our elementary schools. The cost of this program is approx $5.00 per week, per child. An average of 9 food items are packed in a gallon bag. This bag is distributed by the school nurse to the participating children, that have been identified by their teacher, or other school administrator, as being truly hungry when returning to school on Monday mornings. If you would like to “ADOPT a backpack” you may make a 100% tax deductible donation to FUMC, PO Box 364, Alvarado TX 76009, designating in memo line “Backpack”. 100% of designated donations go to fund this program and donation receipts are mailed out quarterly. Donations in any amount are appreciated! (At this time, we would also like to THANK David’s Supermarket, for partnering with us in this project, by allowing us to purchase our food items in bulk.
