Adoption Process for Rescues is so illuminating- 1. Having dogs listed on Petfinder OR the most popular dog adoption websites like Adopt A Pet, RescueMe etc is critical for exposure for dogs to have Adoption Applications that trigger all the steps needed to qualify a good home Prior to allowing adopters to meet dogs (If a rescue has No dogs listed anywhere yet they Boast their adoption rates @ Petshops etc- that means they Dont care enough to Pre-qualify applicants w Interviews & Homechecks before they have people meet their dogs 2. Homechecks are more than just checking fence height, Locks on gates, looking for potential escape routes from yard etc, when one takes the time to meet potential adopters and fosters in Person to ensure a secure and safe environment for the dog there is also so much more that people potentially reveal in person that may conflict with the info they provided on application. eX- they may say - we got rid of our last dog because he/she kept escaping our yard... These are the details people will often not reveal in an application Thus, these lives we save who have been so betrayed deserve their rescuers having the knowledge and experience to spend the time and effort to make sure these lives are placed responsibly utilizing best practices. If a rescue doesnt have the bandwidth to take these critical steps they should limit the amount of dogs they take into their rescue. Anyone can broker dogs for a fee without taking multiple steps to set up dogs for success- caring & diligent rescuers take many steps to protect The lives they committ to forever.
