Advice please. Ive been offered the chance to have a fully-funded graduate intern for 12 weeks in the new year from the University of Brighton. Ive always shied away from this in the past as I didnt know what on earth Id do with an intern, especially as Im a one-man business and I spend a lot of my time in conference or training rooms. Its been suggested, however, that as well as allowing an intern to experience working life as a speaker and trainer I could use them to carry out a research project, which Im thinking could contribute usefully to a couple of new keynote topics Im toying with developing. Has anyone ever used a graduate intern before, especially if youre a one-person business? What did you get them to do? Were they able to do anything meaningful in 12 weeks or did they end up doing your admin? Did you let them try their hand at speaking or training?! I dont want to take someone on if I cant provide a meaningful and useful experience for them but also if its going to end up taking up far more of my time training and managing them and trying to find things for them to do! Any advice/experience gratefully received!
