“Aerotrain” Goes West From the pages of Railway Progress, January 1957. The veil of mystery that closed around “Aerotrain” No. 1 after it completed its tests on the New York Central and returned to the shops of owner-builder General Motors was finally lifted last month to reveal the lightweight streamliner in a glamorous new setting. Union Pacific announced that it was putting the lightweight on a daily schedule between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, would serve free meals-for the first time in railroad history-to all “Aerotrain” passengers paying the regular coach rates. A new buffet diner will offer “Aerotrain” passengers fruit juices, rolls and coffee for breakfast; cold cuts and salads for lunch, a hot entrée for dinner-all on the house. If anybody is still hungry, promises UP, can come back for seconds.
