Afaan Publications International Book Tour! What happens when Africa’s longest kept secret turns into a global affair? It becomes viral! Afaan Oromo, Africa’s fourth most widely spoken language, has spread from being hidden for more than 100 years to a global online campaign to create quality and culturally empowered educational tools for children! Sparked by the suggestion of a young woman from Australia – coupled with the power of social media, the idea spread virally across Africa, Europe, North America and Australia. Within one month, 15 international cities hosted fundraising events, and a total of $122,000 was raised for what was affectionately known as ‘the AFAAN campaign.’ Toltu Tufa, the woman who uploaded the original video, has since produced the highly anticipated series of children’s books, flash cards, posters, stickers and picture books. She will be travelling on tour to the cities which raised the most money during the ‘AFAAN campaign’ with her father, Abdul Wahab Tufa, to Oslo, Norway; Toronto, Canada; Washington-DC, USA; San Francisco, USA; Minneapolis, USA; Denver, USA; and Melboune, Australia.
