After 3 years being based in Malaysia, Asias Biggest Music Festival is moving to Singapore citing the drug incident earlier this year, better infrastructure and seemingly less rigid religious motivated regulations. Probably also due to loud Islamic clerics and NGOs. What FMFA means to me is more than just drinking and parties, but a larger struggle for Malaysia to retain a cosmopolitan outlook, embodying genuine respect for diversity and individual autonomy for her people. When will this nation grow up and respect the personal spaces of different diverse segments of society, rather than claim paternal ownership of monolithic morality, and affirm the tolerance and mutual respect that underpins the hallmark of Malaysian multifaceted - Sanskrit, Arabic, Chinese, Persian - cultural ethos and values.
